It's my turn (I'm Sandy, did I forget to intro myself?) to give you a fun challenge to inspire you for June: use two patterned papers....and one or more embellishments! Easypeasy lemonsqueezy! I don't know if I can make a card without at least 2 papers, and what's a card without embellishing? (Ha! My blog is called "I Can't Stop Embellishing," so I guess you know a little about me just from that!) I hope you're going to be excited to play along...and we can't wait to see what you'll make...especially if you make your embellies by hand, I'd love to check them out!
I hope you find sunshine in your rain! I know you will find lots of inspiration from the rest of the design team.
Before you get started creating, our DT has some inspiration for you...
Below is my card...along with a little video I made to go along with it! The limerick was inspired by a conversation I had with some stamping friends about how we once "thought" we could make cards cheaper than buying them...until we just kept shopping...and shopping...and shopping.... :) The stamp is "This One" by Penny Black, stamped in Memento Onyx Black and colored with Copic Markers; papers are from the "Loyal" line from Authentique, and you can get that in a card-perfect 6x6 pad! The washi tape is from Queen & Co, and the shine on those little hearts is made with Glossy Accents by Ranger. Piercing was done with the Tonic/Tim Holtz Craft Pick. Leave us a comment about what your expectations were when you started crafting...were you as naive as me?
Mary used a circle side step template...this is just lovely! The image is stamped with Memento ink (tuxedo black) directly on to the scrapbook paper (BoBunny's TuTu Dot and Prima's Fairy Floral) and colored with Copic Markers. The Art Impressions stamp is called "Pot of Daisies" and the sentiment is by Penny Black. Evergreen bough and Worn Lipstick Distress Inks; Dies are Labels Thirteen and Petite Scalloped Circles by Spellbinders; The pearl embellishments are Pearl Swirls by Lost & Found...gorgeous!
This is so beautiful! Melanie used Fireworks Ink Spray, Zing Embossing powder/Opaque White, MME paper/Howdy Doody, and Prima paper/Songbird. Her embellishments are the pearls and the flowers and leaves (which are sprayed with the Fireworks also)—yowsa! Go check out her blog for more lovely creations.
Anary made this stunning card to inspire you this month - WOW! Papers are by from the 6x6 pad called Victoria Garden by Echo Park, some lovely Distress Inks, Stickles and Liquid Pearls.

Love your card and the adorable hedgehog. Great tutorial. I always love to watch you coloring an image.
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth! Are there other images in the Oozak store you'd like to see colored? Takin' orders for next month's challenge!
DeleteGorgeous card, fabulous tutorial! and oh boy, was I as naive as you... I think my cards are still working out to about ten times retail as the more you get into the cardmaking hobby, the more "stuff" you find you just have to have! Never mind, it keeps me off the street :-) Donna ☺
ReplyDeleteGood for staying off the streets, Donna! The craft room is safer :)
DeleteAck... I forgot to link last month. LOL Congrats Julie! I really enjoyed looking at everyone's projects and I found so many new blogs to follow just by coming here seeing them all. Thanks for the inspiration from EVERYONE!!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget this month...who wouldn't want so many great Penny Black stamps! :)
DeleteThanks Kymberlee! :)
Delete1) Congrats Julie! You'll be an asset to the team! Enjoy the gig!
ReplyDelete2) Great video tutorial. I was amused by all the stuff you pulled out to do create that fabulous card. Then I realized that my table always looks just about the same way!!! And yes. I thought I'd save money by making my own cards.
3) Great inspiration from the team! Thank you!
Thanks Kathi!! Hope you are doing well! :)
DeleteKathi, it really is amazing what it takes to make one card! And to think I didn't add my trimmer to the pile....wouldn't have been room. LOL :) Hope you play along in the challenge!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Sandy!! Way to use the Washi! My craft stash is out of control! My firefighter brother suggested I take pictures in case of a fire. No way insurance company would understand!
ReplyDeleteHa, Dixie, no kidding! I've often wondered what my stash is really worth, and decided it would make me ill to actually know. :) (And I went shopping today to add to it. Am I nuts?)
DeleteI shopped today too. Sigh.
DeleteReading Dixie's comment makes me wonder...Nah, even with pictures the insurance co would NEVER believe the number, come to think of it...I don't want to KNOW the number!! (and I'm waiting for the postman to bring me a package!) Great video and tutorial...love the hedgie!
ReplyDeleteR/
I refuse to calculate it...the stamps alone are a small fortune. :) I think I'd scare myself!
DeleteYep, Sandy. I had the same thought. Now I have thousands of dollars worth of stamping equipment and the only cards I make other than for the family are for Operation Write Home.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, Sandy, I sure did think I was going to "save" a ton of money making my own cards!!! Ha!!! I've never tallied my "savings" (aka, "toys")but I sure do have fun with them. Loved the video.
ReplyDeleteLoved the tutorial and those wonderful comments about saving "TONS" of money doing your own cards... LOL...
ReplyDeleteI don't think I gave the idea of making cards cheaper a thought when I first started stamping/crafting. I knew a woman who said "let's go out to a stamp shop and see what they have" and I tagged along. I wondered into this magical place that had so many stamps and "STUFF" that I was overwhelmed... of course not overwhelmed enough to stop me from walking out with many dollars less than what I walked into the store with. Just that stop alone, I knew this was NOT going to be cheaper than store-bought, but now, all I can tell you is that, there is always "ONE MORE" stamp to get.
Amen to that, Arlene....always one more stamp on the horizon! :)
DeleteHahahahahaheeheehee!!! I can so relate to all the comments, especially the one about saving money. I have NEVER managed to do that one! Raise your hand if your stash qualifies as a small LSS. (My hand is raised) In fact I went shopping yesterday and a few things really begged to come home with me so I had to give in. Oh c'mon... who out there can resist the pleadings of a stamp or embellit? It's just me and the dog and at times I call myself crazy. I've found myself sneaking a new purchase in so he doesn't see. Can't stand his look of... Really?!?!? More stuff?!?!?
ReplyDeleteLOL So the DOG can't see??? hahahha thanks for making me laugh, Marlene! (If my dog started givin' me the look, well.....she wouldn't be gettin' her walkies! ha :)
DeleteAgree with the rest of the ladies! There is always one more stamp...
ReplyDeleteI decided not to go any craft shop ....but bought "my toys" from the internet!!! Love your card!
hugs
Doreen
Congrats to Julie! Thanks for the great tutorial, Sandy! All the inspiration samples are fantastic! I started out card-making with the notion of just making a few handmade Christmas cards! There is no doubt that any card I create now costs more in supplies than a store-bought card! And it does look like a small shop around here! Yet, you always need more, of course!
ReplyDeleteI think Christmas cards sucked a lot of us in. That's what my stamp group and I talked about - all the money we thought we'd save on those "expensive" holiday greets. haha the joke was totally on us all!
DeleteLove your video! And that's a great card, too!! I don't think I ever thought of card making as a money saving idea; but people will sometimes comment that I must save a lot of money making my own cards! I have begun to inventory my stamping items; in case of fire would an insurance company believe how much one could invest in a hobby? Love this blog and will be back ...
ReplyDeleteLOL at your little ditty that began the video....When we moved last year I was all over the movers to be careful with my stamp room. Pretty sure they thought I was a little crazy, until they were unpacking and saw some dies still in packages with prices and made the comment 'holy cow that's expensive, and this is only one' - then I told them the cost of some of the paper I use with my Copics. I am happy to report that everything made it safely - and I live under no illusion that its cheaper to make a card than buy it.....but as I always tell my husband 'stamping is cheaper than therapy'.
ReplyDeleteThat limerick just popped into my head....it was so funny! And that's hysterical that the movers noted price tags! But - what are you doing with unopened nesties??? Break them out and use them, they're so fun! :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the cool video. I started paper crafting about a year ago and needless to say, had to take over the spare bedroom within 6 months. My stash needed its own place! I don't think I can make my cards for cheaper than the store but hand crafted cards are so much nicer!
DeleteIf only our stash paid rent on those spare bedroooms, eh?? :) :)
DeleteGreat video and card Sandy! I love how effortlessly you color your images - I wish I could do mine faster, but I just take waaaay too much time. I don't calculate how much I spend on stamps or supplies. As long as the bills are paid, there's food on the table, and clothes on our backs I could care less! I figure I'm sharing our wealth for a very good cause, so I don't stress over it. Imagine the $$$ I'm saving on therapy sessions with a professional! This is way more fun too :)
ReplyDeleteKeep up the fantastic job you're doing!
Yeah, maybe we need to calculate a year's worth of psych visits, that might make me feel better....or else make me go call for an appointment. LOL! :)
DeleteGreat creations so glad to have come across your blog which I found on Feline Playful,Hugz Denisexx
ReplyDeleteGlad you found us, Denise!
Deleteyou made it all sound so simple Sandy, loved your video. Yes I was like you, stood in a card shop and thinking I can do this! It was the sentiments that made me want to do my own but little did I know I would end up with my very old craft room, fully stocked lol and regularly replenished. So no I didn't save any money but certainly saved my soul:) Thanks for the video.
ReplyDeleteSoul-saving! Love it :)
DeleteAwesome video!!! Thanks for the fun challenge here. The DT are inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heidi! Rusty's going to let me do one each month, I'm stoked. And yes the team is inspiring, we've got great folks here!
DeleteNo, I was never under the impression that making my own cards would save me money. I'm too addicted to shopping for all the things that I use to make my cards!!! I love your card and LOVE Penny Black stamps!
ReplyDeleteBe sure to join in so you can win some PB! Woohoo!
DeleteCongratulations, Sandy, on your first design team challenge here starting with that great video.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, little did I know when you first introduced me to this craft a couple years ago and sent me home with a bunch of starter supplies that I would need so much more. Seems there'a always something new that I reallllly need. But, as someone else mentioned, it is good therapy and worth the cost, especially if put to use for a great cause like Operation Write Home.
Thanks Mom! :) I think I told you not to buy everything...though I think we're deaf to hearing when we go into the craft shops and see so many must-have things! lol.
DeleteAll the DT projects are wonderful and I really enjoyed Sandy's Video. Her Penny Black card came out awesome and I'm very excited that she is part of the team. I know Sandy from OWH and she's so talented and does so much for our troops! I'm proud to make cards for OWH and so happy that Sandy runs such a fantastic group! :) A wonderful lady in so many ways!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to JULIE - The newest member of the DT! I love all the new cards and thank you all for the inspiration!!
Aw thanks Lisa! :) Wait til you see Julie's card and challenge that'll be posted on Sunday - you're going to love it!
DeleteWas finally able to watch your video as my sound is playing up, Didn't realise how simple and quick you made your penny black card with 14 items, absolutely love the penny black giveaway, thanks for sharing and the chance to win HUgs Denise
ReplyDeleteIt really amazes me that it takes 14 items - when cards just don't look like they should! lol. Good luck!
DeleteThanks for another exciting challenge! Joyce
ReplyDeleteLove the tutorial for colouring - I use Promarkers rather than Copics, but the same principles apply and I'll be using some of those ideas :) The card was lovely too!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question...I think I was under that impression. I bought my first magazine for about £7 with LOADS of supplies to make 20+ Christmas cards, and thought I was on to a winner. Then I realised that I needed a craft mat, a knife, tape, glue dots....so many things! Now when I see recession-chic articles telling you that you'll save money making things yourself I just laugh!
Watched and smiled at your videos (had to watch more than one!) Your cowboy one rocked. You never fell out of character. Interestingly enough I have found myself tossing out smaller pieces of paper that I might have kept if I hadn't watched. You are 'the frugal scrapper' and it's rubbing off.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it! I also have a live webcast each week, you're welcome to join in the fun :)
